Interesting Thought… For this section of the newsletter I try to find something that will stimulate your thought process, either something current (such as my comment on the Zimmerman case last month) or something motivational. For some reason, this month I’m drawing a blank…can’t think of anything to put in the section. Then I had an Interesting Thought…Why don’t you readers send me your Interesting Thoughts? A motivational thought, a comment of current events that might stimulate our thought processes, or anything else you find interesting? I’ll review them and post the ones I feel appropriate (with or without credit…your choice). To quote a famous newscaster, please ‘keep it short and pithy.’ What do you think?
September Concealed Carry Class… The next concealed carry class will be September 14 & 15. Completion of this class meets the training requirement for a New Mexico Concealed Handgun License and enables you to apply for that license. If you have any questions, or would like to sign up for the class, contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 575.430.3040.
Defensive Carbine Class… September 8…Learn to use your AR 15 (or AK 47 or 10/22 or similar carbine) in an exciting and unique way for self defense. The purpose of this class is to teach a variety of close quarters or confined spaces skills utilizing the carbine to enable the student to use the carbine as a self defense weapon in a home or urban environment. Some longer range shooting is also included. This class assumes a basic knowledge of the carbine and its ammunition…it is not for beginners. For more information, or to sign up for the class, contact me at (575) 430-3040 or email@example.com.
And a Reminder… You need to take a Refresher (re-qualification) course two years after you receive your New Mexico concealed handgun license and you need to take a Renewal class and apply to NMDPS for your concealed carry license to be renewed after four years. Take a look at your license periodically and make sure you take those classes.
Personal Firearms Training… If you are interested in personal, individualized firearms training contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 575.430.3040 and I’d be happy to visit with you about meeting your training needs. Any of the classes Riclin offers, from Individual Training Sessions, Concealed Carry, Advanced Defensive Handgun, Defensive Carbine and Shotgun classes, as well as Basic Firearms Training, can be done on a personal training basis for individuals or small groups. Scheduling is very flexible.
If you are going out to eat… You may carry your concealed handgun in a restaurant in New Mexico that is licensed to sell beer and wine only. This is known as a Restaurant License. Go to http://rldverification.rld.state.nm.us/Verification/Search.aspx?facility=Y and do a search. You can enter the name of the restaurant and see what kind of license they have, or you can get a list of all the restaurants with a restaurant license in that particular county. And remember… you cannot consume alcohol while you are carrying your concealed handgun.
Tip of the Month… Trust your instincts! If someone or something makes you uncomfortable, avoid the person or leave the situation as soon as you can. We have all been in situations like that. The more aware you are of your environment, the more likely you are to see a potentially dangerous situation and take steps to avoid it. Your instincts will help, if you will listen to them. Trust that ‘funny feeling’ on the back of your neck!
In closing… Summer is officially over now that Labor Day is past and it is beginning to cool off. Now is a good time to get in some additional practicing and training. Remember, you need to continually develop and maintain your skills. If I can help pleased let me know. In the mean time…be safe.
