September 2009

An Interesting Thought…There is no challenge that we cannot meet. There is no evil we cannot overcome. Our strength is derived from the freedoms too often taken for granted; the freedom to worship as we believe, the freedom to speak as we choose, the freedom to walk where we will, the freedom to be armed in our defense, and ultimately, the grit to fight when we must… Jeff Chudwin, President, Illinois Tactical Officers Association

Another State Accepts NM Concealed Carry License…Nebraska has added New Mexico to the states whose concealed carry license they will accept. This went into effect on August 30. Be sure to check www.handgunlaw.us for state and local laws before you do any out of state traveling.

October Concealed Carry Class…The October Concealed Carry Class will be held on October 10 & 11. If you are interested, or know of anyone else who might be interested in taking the class, please have them contact Richard at riclin@tularosa.net or 575.430.3040.

Defensive Revolver Class…We are considering offering a Defensive Revolver class in the near future, probably sometime in November. Please let me know if you, or anyone you know, would be interested and what topics/skills you would like to see us cover. We’d like to tailor the class to fit your interests and needs.

Individual or Specialized Classes…If you have specific needs not met by our regular classes, or are interested in a different kind of training, please get in touch with me. I’d be glad to work with you or your group. These classes can be one of our regular classes taught on an individual basis or can be set up to work with your particular needs or interests and around your schedule.

Tip of the Month…This month’s tip comes from the signature line of GrannyGlock on the Women & Guns Forum. I think she says it all…My first defense is not to put us in places that are dangerous. Next is an ever present situational awareness. Other defenses are a cell phone and any element of surprise, keeping a safe distance and finally learning to say “Don’t make me shoot!” Mine is a Glock 19.

Concealcarrychat.com…is a locally run concealed carry forum. There is interesting conversation and information. Take a few minutes and visit and sign up if you are not already a member. And don’t forget to submit your ‘best concealed carry handgun’ review for the September contest.

Women on Target…The Sidney Paul Gordon Shooting Range is sponsoring the NRA’s Women on Target program on September 26. It is a good opportunity for women to learn to shoot in a friendly, non-competitive environment. And the $10 fee includes lunch! Call Jay at 575.443.9006 to sign up or to get more information.

OPSA Charity Matches…The month of October will be the Otero Practical Shooting Association Charity Match Month. All the proceeds will be donated to two locally operated charities, Warrior Smiles and the local DAV. The donation to Warrior Smiles will go to a local high school student who is assembling and sending care packages to deployed servicemen (as a guy who used to receive care packages over 35 years ago in a very nasty place very far from here I can tell you they are very much appreciated…). The donation to the local DAV will help fund the vans that are used to transport disabled veterans to appointments in El Paso and Albuquerque. For more information, go to the OPSA website at www.opshooter.org. Come out and join us!

Supporters…Thank you to all our supporters. Larry at Fire Power Gun and Pawn of Ruidoso (575.257.3943) supports Riclin students by giving discounts and passing out information about our classes. James at Basin Firearms (575.430.0541) and Wyatt at the Gun Rack (575.443.1528) will make you a good deal and can order whatever you want. Robert at the Wal Mart (575.434.5870) Sporting Good Department also supports Riclin Firearms Training. We encourage you to patronize these fine businesses that cater to shooters.

In closing…I am sad to announce that Mac has closed the Tularosa Trading Post. Thank you, Mac, for your support over the years and I know we all wish you well.
