Interesting Thought… You’ve taken your basic concealed carry class and learned a lot…but do you really feel adequately prepared to deal with a criminal attack? The average self-defense scenario usually takes place at distances measured in feet, not yards, and is over very quickly. Can you effectively defend yourself at those distances…where you may possibly have to deal with the attackers weapon before you can draw your own? Your basic concealed carry class is Concealed Carry 101…it is only the beginning of your education in the field of personal defense. There is a lot more to learn and new skills you will need. You should consider getting additional training…it might save your life someday. Something to think about…

- Other classes…If you are interested in a particular class that isn’t currently in our calendar, or have a group of friends you would like to take a class with, let me know and we’ll make it happen.
Active Shooter/Terrorist Response Class… As you have seen in the news recently, active shooters can pose a serious threat. Lone wolf terrorist attacks can pose a serious threat as well. And we have seen both in recent months. Are you prepared to deal with either of those? This unique scenario based class will improve your shooting and tactical skills and help to prepare you for such an event. This will be our second active shooter/terrorist response class and will be somewhat different than the first class. We have added a night portion with scenarios this time. For more information or to sign up for the class contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or Coralie at email@example.com. A limited number of slots are available.
Tactical Medicine Class… This very important class presents information and teaches skills everyone carrying a firearm needs to know. It is beyond basic first aid. You will learn lifesaving techniques in dealing with traumatic injuries in stressful situations (gunfight, vehicle accident, wilderness accident, etc). More information will follow in a separate announcement.
Want a Private Concealed Carry Class?… Contact me if you are interested in a private concealed carry class for you and your family or a few friends. Scheduling is very flexible and we can work out a time that is convenient for you.
Pecos Run and Gun (Sept 19)… This was a great event. The venue was changed so it was a little shorter than last year, but it was still 4.5 miles with 5 interesting shooting stops (including one with the Pecos River in the background) and lots of dust (which got into everything). I managed to hit all the targets with in the time limits (although I did take 2:57 to finish a 3:00 stage). Smokey and his crew put on an awesome event and we’ll be back next year.
WesTex Run and Gun… For those interested in running and shooting events like the Pecos one above, the Prude Ranch at Ft. Davis, TX is putting on the second annual WesTex Run and Gun (westexrun-n-gun.com) on February 6, 2016. These events are a real test of your fitness and firearms shooting and manipulation as well as an excellent test of your gear. I did this event last year and it was a lot of fun in a very picturesque environment. If you would like to do some training for this event contact me firstname.lastname@example.org and I’d be happy to work with you.
Personalized Firearms Training… If you are interested in personalized firearms training tailored to your training needs or interests or those of you and a group of your friends, or for your business, contact me and I’d be happy to visit with you about meeting your training needs.
We’ll begin by consulting with you to determine what your training needs are or what you would like to accomplish. Together we’ll decide how to best meet those needs.
Any of the classes Riclin offers, from Individual Training Sessions, Concealed Carry, Defensive Handgun, Defensive Carbine and Shotgun classes, as well as Basic Firearms Training, can be done on a personal training basis for individuals, businesses or small groups. Classes can be tailored to meet your specific needs. Scheduling is very flexible.
Regular Monthly Announcements (Reminders)…
- You need to take a Refresher (re-qualification) course two years after you receive your New Mexico concealed handgun license and you need to take a Renewalclass and apply to NMDPS for your concealed carry license to be renewed after four years. Take a look at your license periodically and make sure you take those classes. If you are in need of either the Refresher or Renewal classes, contact me and we can schedule your class.
- To Learn Which Restaurants Sell Beer and Wine Only… You may carry your concealed handgun in a restaurant in New Mexico that is licensed to sell beer and wine only. This is known as a Restaurant License. Go
tohttp://rldverification.rld.state.nm.us/Verification/Search.aspx?facility=Y and do a search. You can enter the name of the restaurant and see what kind of license they have, or you can get a list of all the restaurants with a restaurant license in that particular county. And remember… you cannot consume alcohol while you are carrying your concealed handgun.
Tip of the Month… Practice drawing (presenting) your concealed handgun. How quickly can you draw it a fire a round? In a criminal attack the bad guy isn’t going to give you much time to draw your weapon. A good rule of thumb would be for you to be able to draw your weapon from concealment, and fire one shot into a 81/2 x 11 sized piece of paper (about the same size as the vital area on an adult) in 1.5 to 2 seconds. This isn’t as easy as you might think. Buy (or borrow) a shot timer and try it. The first few draws will probably be very eye opening and will take a lot longer than you think they will. Then practice your presentation (draw) so that you can get the time down to below 2 seconds. Remember, the smoother your draw the faster it will be. Start slowly and work on accessing your concealed handgun through the layers of clothing concealing it, getting a proper grip, clearing the holster and then bringing the handgun up to your firing position and firing. Strive to be smooth…speed will come from smoothness.
In Closing… The holidays are fast approaching. More people will be out and about shopping and socializing. Be cautious that you don’t become distracted. Focus on living defensively while you are out and about and be safe and enjoy your holidays.
