Interesting Thought… There have been a number of active shooter incidents lately. Have you noticed that they all seem to occur is places where guns are not allowed…so called ‘gun free zones?’ So here is your interesting thought for the month (from Jon Payne on the Warrior Talk forum)…The two most dangerous places in today’s world: 1.) a gun free zone and 2.) your comfort zone. The gun free zone is obvious, but think about your comfort zone. For example, it is easy to be comfortable with your daily routine so you tend to get lax about your awareness because nothing ever happens (or hasn’t happened yet…), increasing the possibility of something bad happening because you weren’t as aware of your environment as you should have been. Or you are comfortable with your training level so you slack off a bit, and then you get lazy, and then if you ever need to use your training you find it is rusty because you got comfortable and didn’t continue to maintain level of training you once had. Something to think about…and now is the time to get out of your comfort zone and do something!
December Concealed Carry Class… I will not be scheduling a regular monthly concealed carry class for December. However, if you and/or your friends would like to take a concealed carry class in December let me know and we’ll make arrangements for your class. If you have any questions, or would like to schedule a class, contact me at email@example.com or by phone at 575.430.3040.
Night Class… The Night Class on November 8 went well. We did a lot of shooting and learned that lasers and flashlights are both effective after dark. We finished by shooting the NM Concealed Carry qualification course after dark with a twist (3 yards no light, 7 yards lights optional). Everyone qualified. If you are interested in a Night Class please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 575.430.3040.rb1628*
Monthly Reminder… I know you get tired of me repeating this, but you would be surprised how many people contact me when they realized that they are late doing their Refresher or simply forgot until they saw it in the newsletter…so here it is…you need to take a Refresher (re-qualification) course two years after you receive your New Mexico concealed handgun license and you need to take a Renewal class and apply to NMDPS for your concealed carry license to be renewed after four years. Take a look at your license periodically and make sure you take those classes. If you are in need of either the Refresher or Renewal classes, contact me and we can schedule your class.

To Learn Which Restaurants Sell Beer and Wine Only… You may carry your concealed handgun in a restaurant in New Mexico that is licensed to sell beer and wine only. This is known as a Restaurant License. Go to http://rldverification.rld.state.nm.us/Verification/Search.aspx?facility=Y and do a search. You can enter the name of the restaurant and see what kind of license they have, or you can get a list of all the restaurants with a restaurant license in that particular county. And remember… you cannot consume alcohol while you are carrying your concealed handgun.
Concealed Carry Statistics from NMDPS… Here is a link to the latest New Mexico concealed carry statistics. I’m glad to see they are publishing this interesting information. http://www.dps.nm.org/index.php/nm-concealed-carry/concealed-handgun-carry-statistics/.
Tip of the Month… Carry a flashlight with you! A flashlight comes in handy for a lot of things, not just for shooting at night. But if you are involved in an altercation after dark, a flashlight, knowing how to use it in conjunction with your handgun can make a difference.
