Important Reciprocity Information… New Mexico is making significant changes in its reciprocity agreements and there are lots of rumors about what is happening. For up to date information check the NM DPS Reciprocity website at http://www.dps.nm.org/index.php/nm-concealed-carry/reciprocity-agreements/ for the current status of the reciprocity agreements. If you are a New Mexico concealed carry license holder planning on traveling www.handgunlaw.us advises you to call ahead to make sure your New Mexico concealed carry license is still honored in the states you are anticipating traveling in. If you have concerns or would like to make comments about these changes I encourage you to send your comments to the NM DPS Concealed Carry Unit by going to http://www.dps.nm.org/index.php/nm-concealed-carry/reciprocity-agreements/ and fill out their feedback form at the bottom of the page or contact Governor Martinez at  http://www.governor.state.nm.us/Contact_the_Governor.aspx.

Tip of the Month… While you are training with your handgun, don’t neglect continuing your academic education in concealed carry as well. The field of self defense is changing and evolving and you need to keep current with new techniques, changes in the law and new ways to deal with a variety of situations. Books, magazines and Internet web sites and forums are just four of the many ways to increase your academic knowledge. A note of caution…always check the accuracy and validity of any information before you act on it.

In closing… I don’t know what the long term result of the reciprocity changes will be or how they will impact New Mexico Concealed Handgun License holders. I will make every effort to keep you posted as things evolve. Please keep me posted as you learn things as well.
