An Interesting Thought…When I carry a gun, I don’t do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I’m looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don’t carry it because I’m afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn’t limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation… and that’s why carrying a gun is a civilized act. Attributed to Maj. L. Caudill USMC (Ret)

Next Concealed Carry Class…The next regular Concealed Carry Class will be held on July 17 & 18. If you are interested, or know of anyone else who might be interested in taking the class, please have them contact Richard at 575.430.3040 or at riclin@tularosa.net. Note that there will not be a regular concealed carry class in June due to my retirement from my ‘real’ job.

Ladies Concealed Carry Class…I have been approached to teach a Ladies Concealed Carry Class on June 5 & 6. Are any of you ladies interested in a class for ladies that will include material specific to you? I realize it is short notice, but if there you are interested contact me at 575.430.3040 or at riclin@tularosa.net.

Nevada…Nevada periodically reviews the status of the various states and has recently added New Mexico to the list of states whose concealed carry license they will honor. Be sure to check www.handgunlaw.us for any possible changes in the laws before you travel to Nevada or any other state.

Private, Individual or Specialized Classes…More and more people are either taking individual classes or setting up private classes for their groups or businesses. If you have specific needs not met by our regular classes or scheduling, or are interested in a different kind of training, please get in touch with me. These classes can be one of our regular classes taught on an individual basis or a class can be set up to work with your particular needs or interests and around your schedule.

Renewal/Refresher Class…More and more people are coming due for their Renewal class. Check your license and give me a call (see reminder below) and I will schedule a class. If you are interested, or know of anyone else who might be interested in taking the class, please have them contact Richard at 575.430.3040 or at riclin@tularosa.net.

Concealed Carry in Restaurant with Beer and Wine Licenses (Restaurant License)…As a reminder, beginning July 1 you will be able to carry a concealed handgun into restaurants that have a Beer and Wine (also known as a Restaurant) license (assuming that you have a concealed carry license). To determine what kind of liquor license the restaurant you wish to patronize has, go to

https://riclin.net/ and search for the restaurant you are interested in. Remember, you may not consume alcohol while you are in possession of your concealed firearm.

Tip of the Month…Include in your practice drills drawing your handgun from concealment and shooting while you are moving in the clothes you normally wear. If you generally wear a business suit, you should practice in that. If you wear a heavy jacket in winter, practice in that. And if all you wear in summer is shorts and a t-shirt, you need to practice in that. Anyone can go to the range, take your time to assume a perfect stance and fire away, but a self defense confrontation will seldom offer that opportunity. It is easy to execute the perfect draw from a range holster, but you need to practice with the holster you use to conceal your handgun, in the clothing you are generally wearing, while you are moving, while you are seated, and in every awkward position you can think of.

Supporters…Thank you to all our supporters. Both James at Basin Firearms (575.430.0541) and Wyatt at the Gun Rack (575.443.1528) will make you a good deal and can order whatever you want. Larry at Fire Power Gun and Pawn of Ruidoso (575.257.3943) supports Riclin students by giving discounts and passing out information about our classes. Robert at the Wal Mart (575.434.5870) Sporting Good Department also supports Riclin Firearms Training, LLC. Bill at The Gunsmith Works in Capitan (575.354.0491) is also a supporter. And welcome to our new supporter, Ricochet Shooting Sports, located at Hwy 54 and the La Luz turn off. Stop by and see Clint or give him a call (575.434.GUNS). David Locke of the Postal Annex in Ruidoso (575.973.1049) has been setting up classes in Ruidoso. We encourage you to patronize these fine businesses that cater to and support shooters.

Reminder about your Refresher or Renewal…Check the expiration date on your license to see if you need to take a Refresher (2 years after the issue date of your license) or a Renewal (2 months prior to the expiration date on your license). Many people with 4 year concealed carry licenses are coming up for renewal so take a look at your license and see where you are in terms of needing either the Refresher or the Renewal and give me a call (575.430.3040). Contact me if you need either class or if you have any questions.

In closing…As retirement approaches from my ‘real job’ I have been evaluating what if any changes I should make in the classes offered by Riclin Firearms Training, LLC. I will be offering some additional classes (Defensive Shotgun will be one) as well as offering some classes during the week for those who prefer a week day class. If you are interested in a week day class please let me know and I will try to accommodate you. I will keep you posted. And thank you all for your support.
