June 2020

Another Update… As I mentioned in my earlier ‘Dramatic Update,’ I managed to break my ankle while hiking. As a result, I’m now wearing a boot and have instructions not to put any weight on my ankle for a while. The boot should come off later this month, but I’ll still need to get back to walking and let this thing heal properly. As a result, I won’t be scheduling any initial concealed carry classes, or any specialty classes, until after July 15. I will be doing Renewals and Refreshers on request, assuming we can work out the logistics of getting me to the range since I can’t drive at the moment.

This has been an ‘interesting ‘ experience. Fortunately, I have friends who are willing to take me to the range occasionally and put up with me shooting from a wheelchair.

And speaking of wheelchairs, I have had a number of students who are in wheelchairs. Being in one myself for this little while has taught me a lot about what those folks go through. I’ve had to rethink how I carry my concealed handgun and adjust my shooting stance to accommodate the restrictions caused by the wheelchair.

Upcoming Classes and Events…

  • Initial concealed carry classes will resume after July 15.
  • I will be doing Renewal and Refresher classes on request since the shooting range is available. Take a moment and check the dates on your license…NOW! It’s amazing how many people are late for their Refresher or Renewal classes.

Specific Individual or Small Group Firearms Training… These will resume after July 15. A big benefit of an individual or small group training is that it can be tailored to your training needs or interests. Contact me and I’d be happy to visit with you about meeting your training needs for yourself, a group of your friends, or for your business, Any of the classes we offer, from Individual Training Sessions, Concealed Carry, Defensive Handgun, Defensive Carbine and Shotgun classes, as well as Basic Firearms Training, can be done on a personal basis for individuals, businesses or small groups. Scheduling is very flexible.

Couples Classes… These will resume after July 15. I have been surprised, and very pleased, at how popular these couples classes, where I work with individual couples, have become in a short period of time. If you would be interested in this sort of concealed carry class please let me know. I’d be happy to discuss with you ways we can accommodate you and your specific needs.

Tip of the Month… When was the last time you shot the handgun you carry? A lot of folks, if they shoot at all, tend to shoot something other than the gun they carry. You need to practice with the gun you carry! You should be very familiar with your carry gun, know the trigger, be comfortable with the sights, and be able to clear a malfunction quickly. Shoot your carry pistol!

A Closing Thought… I’m looking forward to next month when I can get back to teaching on a regular basis. In the meantime, be safe out there..things are getting a little chaotic.
