July 2018

Interesting Thought… Here is a guest editorial from Coralie Carrier, a concealed carry instructor in Las Cruces, that is a bit of a change of pace but something we need to take very seriously considering the times we are in (and November isn’t very far away).

As another summer winds down and another political season gears up I have a couple of thoughts for everyone. Are you getting ready for what is coming? Elections in November and a long session in the State Legislature next year! I know, I know, it’s been too hot to even want to think about the next governor and other elected officials but remember the old saying … “Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.” NOW is the time to educate yourself about the platforms each candidate is standing on …particularly the 2nd Amendment plank. There is some really scary stuff out there so please, please, take a few minutes one of these hot afternoons and get on your computer and find out for yourself just how scary some of these folks are. The Bloomberg group is expected to mount another campaign and pour money into the politician’s coffers to promote their agenda. NOW is the time to plan our strategies!  Since it’s too hot to go to the range, take a few minutes and scare yourself to death about the future if we don’t get pro-active!

Upcoming Classes and Events…

  • August 11 & 12 Concealed Carry Class in Alamogordo
  • August 18 & 19… Gun Show in Alamogordo. Stop by my table and visit a while.
  • Stay tuned for a late summer night shooting class…
  • Renewal and Refresher classes…Take a moment and check the dates on your license…NOW! It’s amazing how many people are late for their Refresher or Renewal classes. I am doing these on request. If you need your Renewal or Refresher let me know and we’ll schedule your class. I have been doing these classes individually or in small groups for some time now and people seem to like this way of doing the classes.

Don’t Forget…Regular Monthly Reminders… (I know you get tired of reading this but you do need to be reminded occasionally…

Don’t forget your Refresher Class! You need to take a Refresher (re-qualification) course two years after you receive your New Mexico concealed handgun license and you need to take a Renewal class and apply to NMDPS for your concealed carry license to be renewed after four years (5 years for those with a veteran’s concealed handgun license). Take a look at your license periodically and make sure you take those classes. If you are in need of either the Refresher or Renewal classes, contact me and we can schedule your class.

To Learn Which Restaurants Sell Beer and Wine Only… You may carry your concealed handgun in a restaurant in New Mexico that is licensed to sell beer and wine only. This is known as a Restaurant License. Go to http://rldverification.rld.state.nm.us/Verification/Search.aspx?facility=Y and do a search. You can enter the name of the restaurant and see what kind of license they have, or you can get a list of all the restaurants with a restaurant license in that particular county. And remember… you cannot consume alcohol while you are carrying your concealed handgun.

Interested in a Private (or Discrete) Concealed Carry Class?… I have been doing quite a few of this type of class.  Contact me if you are interested in a private concealed carry class for you and your family or a few friends or your business. Scheduling is very flexible and we can work out a time that is convenient for you.

Specific Individual or Small Group Firearms Training… A big benefit of an individual or small group training is that it can be tailored to your training needs or interests. Contact me and I’d be happy to visit with you about meeting your training needs for yourself, a group of your friends, or for your business, Any of the classes we offer, from Individual Training Sessions, Concealed Carry, Defensive Handgun, Defensive Carbine and Shotgun classes, as well as Basic Firearms Training, can be done on a personal basis for individuals, businesses or small groups. Scheduling is very flexible.

Tip of the Month… I know its fun to go to the range and burn up a lot of ammunition. However, think about working on one or two particular skills each time you go to the range. Some examples would be to work on marksmanship (always), developing a smooth and efficient presentation (draw), shoot from various forms of concealment, try shooting from unconventional shooting positions (seated, from the ground, etc), strong hand only, weak hand only, and so on. The purpose and benefit is to develop your shooting skills in a variety of ways so you will be better prepared in the event you need to use your handgun in a defensive situation. Note…these concepts work well with rifles and shotguns too.

In Closing… An interesting article on the civilian use of firearms to deter crime for you to take a look at sent by one of my subscribers. It looks at situations that occurred in June 2018 and is interesting reading… https://www.dailysignal.com/2018/07/09/a-month-of-data-provides-ample-evidence-for-why-law-abiding-citizens-own-firearms/
