February – March 2015

Interesting Thought… The recent happenings in the Middle East have generated some specific threats to malls and other places here in the US. There have been attacks in other countries (France and Denmark very recently) and there is no reason to believe that it won’t happen here at some point. The question is this…if you are in a location where a terrorist attack occurs, what can you do about it? The attack has come to where you are…there is no avoiding it. Do you try to hide and pray that the attacker(s) don’t see you? Do you try to run away? Or do you fight back? You will have a choice…the question is what will you do with your choice. Riclin Firearms Training and SAFE in Las Cruces are developing a class that will help you develop skills that will help you to fight back and increase your chances of surviving. It will be coming soon…we’ll keep you posted.

Upcoming Classes and Events…

March 6…Refresher Class
March 14 & 15…Concealed Carry Class in Alamogordo
March 21…Couples Class in Las Cruces
March 28…Night Class in Las Cruces

I am doing Renewal and Refresher classes on request. If you need your Renewal or Refresher let me know and we’ll schedule your class. I have been doing these classes individually or in small groups for some time now and people seem to like this way of doing the classes.
If you are interested in a particular class that isn’t currently in our calendar, or have a group of friends you would like to take a class with, let me know and we’ll make it happen.

Calling All Couples… Riclin Firearms Training and SAFE in Las Cruces are offering a class tailored for couples in Las Cruces on March 21 from 3:00 pm – 9:00 pm. This class will focus on couples working together as a team. It will include both daylight and night sessions and will feature scenarios similar to what couples may encounter. This class is NOT for beginners. Couples must have a concealed carry license or similar training (this will be strictly enforced). Couples with a non shooting member are also encouraged to attend. For more information or to sign up for the class contact Richard at riclin@tularosa.net or Coralie at safeinlc@aol.com.

Night Class in Las Cruces… Riclin Firearms Training and SAFE in Las Cruces will be offering a night class in Las Cruces on March 28. Most self defense situations occur at night or in low light. Are you ready? This class will give you valuable night time shooting experience and tips on how to shoot effectively after dark. For more information or to sign up for the class contact Richard at riclin@tularosa.net or Coralie at safeinlc@aol.com.

Run and Gun Events…  The WesTex Run and Gun event near Ft. Davis, TX on February 7 was AWESOME! It was physically more difficult than I thought it would be but I survived. The shooting stages were very interesting and challenging (with some awkward shooting positions) but I managed to hit all the targets within the time limit. Shooting uphill at a 45 degree angle was interesting as was shooting across a small canyon at steel plates 400 yards away. A great event! The folks who put on the event were great! And they said they are planning on doing it again next year. I’ll be there!

Email Issues… I’ve recently had to deal with some email issues with my riclin@tularosa.net email address. Apparently I wasn’t receiving a bunch of messages. The problem has been resolved, but if you sent me an email in the last 2 or 3 months that I did not respond to I would appreciate your sending it again. Thanks for your understanding.

Personal, Individualized Firearms Training… If you are interested in personal, individualized firearms training for yourself, you and a group of your friends, or for your business contact me and I’d be happy to visit with you about meeting your training needs.

We’ll begin by consulting with you to determine what your training needs are or what you would like to accomplish. Together we’ll decide how to best meet those needs.

Any of the classes Riclin offers, from Individual Training Sessions, Concealed Carry, Defensive Handgun, Defensive Carbine and Shotgun classes, as well as Basic Firearms Training, can be done on a personal training basis for individuals, businesses or small groups. Classes can be tailored to meet your specific needs. Scheduling is very flexible.

Regular Monthly Announcements (Reminders)…

You need to take a Refresher (re-qualification) course two years after you receive your New Mexico concealed handgun license (if the current legislative session changes that I will let you know) and you need to take a Renewal class and apply to NMDPS for your concealed carry license to be renewed after four years. Take a look at your license periodically and make sure you take those classes. If you are in need of either the Refresher or Renewal classes, contact me and we can schedule your class.

To Learn Which Restaurants Sell Beer and Wine Only… You may carry your concealed handgun in a restaurant in New Mexico that is licensed to sell beer and wine only. This is known as a Restaurant License. Go to http://rldverification.rld.state.nm.us/Verification/Search.aspx?facility=Y and do a search. You can enter the name of the restaurant and see what kind of license they have, or you can get a list of all the restaurants with a restaurant license in that particular county. And remember… you cannot consume alcohol while you are carrying your concealed handgun.

Tip of the Month… Review the laws on the use of deadly force in your state periodically as well as where you can and can not carry a concealed handgun. And if you are traveling you need to be up to date on the laws where you are going to be traveling as well. I see many students in the Refresher and Renewal classes who have forgotten important details regarding the legal use of deadly force and where they can and can not carry their concealed weapon. You need to know this! The web site www.handgunlaw.us is an excellent resource for this. Visit it often.

In closing… I would like to thank all of you for your calls, emails and letters to our elected representatives in Santa Fe during the current legislative session as they consider various firearms related legislation. Your efforts do make a difference. Keep up the good work. I’ll continue to keep you posted as things evolve.
