Ready Citizen Challenge – Level 1

Ready Citizen Challenge is a four-level series to test your pistol marksmanship skills.

It’s a great way to check your skills and boost your confidence as you learn how you stack up against gun-carrying professionals! Those tests are timed, and qualifying scores are set for you as they are for any officer, from 75-80 percent.

At Level 1, the four courses of fire include

  • an untimed qualification used by a well-known shooting school to select applicants for a special class given by celebrity shooters
  • the New Mexico armed security guard shooting test
  • the Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act qualification
  • the New Mexico Department of Public Safety dim-light handgun qualification (done during the day, but using a handheld light)

We offer two classes specifically designed for active duty military personnel stationed in New Mexico or veterans who have been out of the military for less than 20 years.

One class covers the legal aspects of concealed carry in New Mexico and what you need to know to apply for your concealed carry license. This class will also provide information on obtaining your New Mexico concealed carry license.

The second class is an introduction to defensive handgun shooting for those with limited defensive handgun training/shooting experience.

‘I am a woman, who carries a gun — and I am alive and safe today because of it.’ ~ from a Riclin Firearms Training LLC  student who was forced to use her concealed handgun in self defense…

Riclin Firearms Training, LLC offers several classes specifically for women. Women tend to learn differently than men. We have also seen that once women are introduced to shooting, many become very good at it. In many cases, we have seen a woman out shoot her husband (and generally their husband is quite pleased). We have taught many women in each of the classes we offer.

Women’s Basic Pistol Class…based on the NRA Basic Pistol Class, this class teaches you the basic skills needed to safely handle and shoot a handgun. This is a good place to begin if you have never done any shooting or are concerned about your ability to safely handle a pistol. The class begins with safety, then moves on to the six basic handgun shooting fundamentals. We also discuss various types of ammunition, what to look for when you are purchasing a pistol, and do quite a bit of shooting as well.

“As a woman with absolutely no gun knowledge or experience, I found the personal training sessions to be much less intimidating.  To my surprise, I found that I very much enjoyed learning to handle a gun.  I had a great time and learned a valuable skill that may one day save my life or the life of someone else.”  ~ PD

Women’s Defensive Shooting Class…this class is for the woman who is interested in learning to defend herself with a handgun. As with all our classes, this one begins with safety, and then progress to a variety of defensive shooting techniques. This class is taught at two different levels. One is a beginner’s level where we begin with how to shoot a handgun and then evolve to the defensive techniques. The second level is for the woman who is familiar with handgun shooting, is interested in learning defensive shooting techniques but is not particularly interested in obtaining a license to carry a concealed handgun. If you are not sure which level of this class you should consider, just ask. We will help you figure it out.

New Mexico Concealed Handgun Carry Class for Women…similar to our regular Concealed Carry class, this one is taught focusing on the specific needs of women who wish to carry a canceled handgun while also covering the requirements of the Concealed Handgun Act. Upon completion of this class, women are eligible to apply for the New Mexico Concealed Handgun License.

Individualized Classes for Women…as the name indicates, any class we teach can be taught on an individual basis, focusing on the needs of the particular student. We have a great deal of experience teaching women and many have opted to receive individualized instruction rather than take a class with others. Other women go on to individualized instruction after completing one of more of our regular classes. Some women have come with unique needs or requirements and we have been able to work with them in their unique circumstances.

Concealed Carry (New Mexico)

This class meets the training requirement of the New Mexico Concealed Handgun Carry Act. Completion of this class enables the student to apply for a New Mexico Concealed Handgun Carry License. Topics approved by the New Mexico Department of Public Safety, include:

  • Knowledge of and safe handling of single and double action revolvers and semiautomatic handguns
  • Safe storage of handguns and child safety
  • Safe handgun shooting fundamentals
  • Live shooting of a handgun on a firing range (includes qualification firing)
  • Identification of ways to develop and maintain handgun shooting skills
  • Federal, state and local criminal and civil laws pertaining to the purchase, ownership, transportation, use and possession of handguns
  • Techniques for avoiding a criminal attack and how to control a violent confrontation
  • Techniques for nonviolent dispute resolution

Additional topics include ways to conceal your handgun, sources for additional information and an interesting discussion of the OODA loop concept of reaction time. Instruction is individualized to each participant as much as possible while keeping within the course guidelines.

Participants will receive a copy of the Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection in the Home produced by the National Rifle Association as well as a student manual.

The shooting drills are designed to expose the student to a variety of techniques, situations and scenarios to develop their shooting skills. Beginning with basic accuracy drills, we evolve into dynamic movement techniques and shooting on the move. Once the student has completed the shooting drills they shoot the qualification course.

Qualification with both the semi-auto and the revolver are included as part of the class. Students are expected to provide their own handguns and ammunition. Loaner handguns are available if a student has not yet purchased their handgun. Students who do not own a handgun are encouraged to NOT purchase a handgun until after they complete the class. During the class they will have the opportunity to handle and shoot several different handguns. This is an excellent opportunity to find a handgun that meets their particular needs.

If you would like to take the class with a friend or family member, a discount is available for those willing to share the book and other materials.
