Ready Citizen Challenge Event Scheduled for February 2018

Think you’re a great shot?  Come prove it and earn a T-shirt too!  Offered by Terry Nelson and Eve Flanigan, the Ready Citizen Challenge is a four-level series to test your pistol marksmanship skills. We are offering Level 1 in Alamogordo on February 10. If there is interest we can do Level 2 on February 11.

It’s a great way to check your skills and boost your confidence as you learn how you stack up against gun-carrying professionals! Those tests are timed, and qualifying scores are set for you as they are for any officer, from 75-80 percent.

At Level 1, the four courses of fire include

  • an untimed qualification used by a well-known shooting school to select applicants for a special class given by celebrity shooters
  • the New Mexico armed security guard shooting test
  • the Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act qualification
  • the New Mexico Department of Public Safety dim-light handgun qualification (done during the day, but using a handheld light)

All shooters who complete the four tests of any Level receive a T-shirt, even if they did not make a passing score on one or more tests. Persistence is a virtue of the Ready Citizen!  Those who pass each level get a printed certificate of achievement.

Price: $110 per level plus a $5.32 range fee. One free on-site reshoot per test is offered for any tests not passed. Approximately 200 rounds; bring a bit extra. Three to four hours range time depending on the number of participants, weather, etc. Contact Eve Flanigan at 575-642-4825 to sign up for the Challenge or for more information.

Night Shooting Class in Las Cruces March 24

Riclin Firearms Training, LLC and SAFE, LLC will be holding a Night Shooting Class at the Butterfield Trail Shooting Range near Las Cruces on March 24 from 5:00 pm until approximately 9:00 pm. The cost of the class is $65. Class size will be limited.

Approximately 70% of self-defense encounters occur in low light or night time situations. You need to be able to shoot effectively in these low light situations. And since most self defense situations happen unexpectedly, you may or may not have your flashlight with you when the time comes. This class will introduce you to techniques to help you prevail.

We begin in the late afternoon, taking advantage of the daylight to teach the basic techniques. You will shoot in the waning light as it gets dark to give you experience shooting in a variety of light conditions. Then you will have the opportunity to shoot at night both with and without a flashlight in a variety of scenarios. This is an interesting and challenging class.

You will need a center fire handgun, holster, extra magazines or speed loaders, a flashlight that you can operate one handed, and approximately 200 rounds of ammunition (bring more just in case).

To sign up for this class or for more information call Richard at (575) 430-3040 or email riclin@tularosa.net or call Coralie at (575) 644-1692 or email safeinlc@aol.com.

Handgun/Carbine Match Sunday November 20

The Otero Practical Shooting Association will be hosting a Handgun/Carbine match on Sunday, November 20 at the Sidney Paul Gordon Shooting Range in La Luz.

I don’t know all the details or a round count (however 100 rounds of handgun ammo and 100 rounds of carbine ammo should be more than enough) but it will start at 9 am on Sunday. No long range. It will be in the general purpose berms like our usual pistol matches.

Please come out and join us. I can guarantee you will have a good time! Contact me if you have any questions.

Free Ladies Shooting Clinic in February 2013

Riclin Firearms Training will be sponsoring a free ladies shooting clinic on Sunday February 17 from 2 pm – 4 pm at the Sidney Paul Gordon Shooting Range in La Luz. For planning purposes, please email Richard if you are planning to attend.

Note…this clinic is not for beginners.  If you are a beginner interested in learning to shoot a handgun please contact Richard at Riclin Firarms Training for available beginner class opportunities.

The clinic is designed to be an opportunity to practice your practical shooting skills.

You will need:

  • 100 rounds of ammunition for your handgun

  • ear protection

This is an outdoor activity so plan and dress accordingly. Dressing in layers is often good practice, as well as planning to bring any food, drink and weather protection you may need.
