Interesting Thought… Do you own or manage a small business…or know someone who does? Have you given any thought to the safety of your employees and customers? All you need to do is watch the news and you will see that the world has become a more dangerous place. And it isn’t just the Middle East…it is also on Main Street. Look what has happened in Ferguson over the last week. More and more small businesses are beginning to arm some or all of their employees. If you are considering that possibility, adequate training is a must.

Upcoming Classes and Events…

Next monthly Concealed Carry class will be October 4 & 5.

Due to the upcoming Pecos Run and Gun event in September we will not be doing a monthly concealed carry class in September. However, if you or your group are interested in a private concealed carry class please let me know and we’ll work it out.

Riclin Firearms Training, LLC and SAFE, LLC will be offering will be a Ladies Only Night Class in Las Cruces on Friday October 3. Our night classes are not for beginners and participants must have a concealed carry license or an equivalent level of training/skill. For more information contact me at (575) 430-3040 or riclin@tularosa.net or Coralie at (575) 644-1692 or  safeinlc@aol.com.

I am doing Renewal and Refresher classes on request. If you need your Renewal or Refresher let me know and we’ll schedule your class. I have been doing these classes individually or in small groups for some time now and people seem to like this way of doing the classes.

If you are interested in a particular class, or have a group of friends you would like to take a class with, let me know and we’ll make it happen.

Las Cruces Ladies CCW Fashion Show… The High Caliber Ladies of Las Cruces will be presenting a Ladies Concealed Carry Fashion Show on Saturday September 13 from 6 pm – 9 pm at the Good Samaritan Village Auditorium, 3011 Buena Vida in Las Cruces. They will be modeling a variety of ways for ladies to carry their concealed handgun. There will also be self defense demonstrations, door prizes and free refreshments. It will be an informative and exciting evening for the ladies (and gentlemen, you are welcome as well). For more information, call Donna at (575) 644-8134.

Open Carry Class… New Mexico is an open carry state and some people have chosen to carry their handguns openly. If you are going to carry openly, you need to be aware of the laws that impact your carrying of your firearm. We have an Orientation to Open Carry in NM Class designed for people who wish to carry their handguns openly. I recently did a court ordered class for an individual who entered a place where he could not legally carry a handgun. That could happen to you if you don’t know the law! If you are interested in this class contact me and I’ll be happy to set it up for you.

The Las Cruces Night Class went well… They fired approximately 250 rounds doing a variety of moving and stationary drills. We did a lot of shooting with no flashlight, relying only on ambient light. That will be the reality for most of us if we ever do have a defensive encounter at night. While some people do carry a flashlight all the time, most of us do not. At the end of the evening they fired both the NMDPS Night and the NM CCW qualification courses. We are planning another night class in October. See the Upcoming Events and Classes section for more details.

Pecos Run and Gun Update… We continue to make progress. The main focus now is on longer distance shooting, increasing our hiking distance and making sure all the gear works out. You can follow along with our training efforts through Facebook  (https://www.facebook.com/riclinfirearmsllc). Take a look and be sure to ‘Like’ my Facebook page if you have not already done so.

Interested in Personal, Individualized Firearms Training? If you are interested in personal, individualized firearms training for yourself, you and a group of your friends, or for your business contact me and I’d be happy to visit with you about meeting your training needs. We’ll begin by consulting with you to determine what your training needs are or what you would like to accomplish. Together we’ll decide how to best meet those needs. Any of the classes Riclin offers, from Individual Training Sessions, Concealed Carry, Advanced Defensive Handgun, Defensive Carbine and Shotgun classes, as well as Basic Firearms Training, can be done on a personal training basis for individuals, businesses or small groups. Classes can be tailored to meet your specific needs. Scheduling is very flexible.

Regular Monthly Announcements (Reminders)…

You need to take a Refresher (re-qualification) course two years after you receive your New Mexico concealed handgun license and you need to take a Renewal class and apply to NMDPS for your concealed carry license to be renewed after four years. Take a look at your license periodically and make sure you take those classes. If you are in need of either the Refresher or Renewal classes, contact me and we can schedule your class

To Learn Which Restaurants Sell Beer and Wine Only… You may carry your concealed handgun in a restaurant in New Mexico that is licensed to sell beer and wine only. This is known as a Restaurant License. Go to http://rldverification.rld.state.nm.us/Verification/Search.aspx?facility=Y and do a search. You can enter the name of the restaurant and see what kind of license they have, or you can get a list of all the restaurants with a restaurant license in that particular county. And remember… you cannot consume alcohol while you are carrying your concealed handgun.

Tip of the Month… Shoot at night whenever you have the opportunity! It is different than daytime shooting. Many defensive encounters occur at night or in low light situations, and you need to know how to respond in those circumstances. Learn several different flashlight techniques and practice…practice shooting at night both with and without a flashlight. You never know when you may need that particular skill.

In closing… A final thought… if you do own or manage a small business and would be interested in firearms training for yourself and your employees I’d be happy to work with you.
